Child Care, Emergency Shelter & Assessment
Overnight Awake CareHouseparent In Training

POSITION:  Child Care Worker, Emergency Shelter and Assessment Center

PURPOSE:  Provide direct care and work with the assessment
team to implement programs designed to meet the physical, developmental, and emotional needs of children.

RESPONSIBILITIES (partial list):

  • Provide care and supervision of children. Provide basic physical needs and emotional security for children in care.
  • Assist the children in formulating and implementing goals and objectives that would improve their behavior and implement the behavioral program outlined. 
  • Observe and chart the children's behavior and progress of goals on a daily basis.
  • Assist children in learning basic skills of daily living.
  • Organize and supervise daily cottage activities.  Become knowledgeable of and committed to the implementation of licensing, level of care standards, Council on Accreditation
  • Standards, and as well as Children's Home policies and procedures.
  • Provide structure, monitoring and implement age appropriate rules, privileges, and consequences on an individual basis for each child.
  • Provide or arrange transportation to and from various appointments for the children in care.
  • Prepare nutritional meals (and documentation of such) according to approved meal plans and posted menus.
  • Assess clothing and hygiene needs of children in care and work with the assessment team to meet these needs.
  • Work with the children's teachers in formulating ways to enhance their educational experiences and assist children in meeting academic goals and objectives, as needed.
  • Work with the assessment team to identify and secure services from other professionals as needed.
  • Ensure children receive all routine examinations and immunizations in accordance with all applicable standards and policies.
  • Retain and dispense medication according to physician's instructions for prescription medication and medication label for non-prescription medications and ensure appropriate documentation, dosage and dispensing.
  • Attend school meetings, administrative case reviews, court hearings, etc., as they pertain to children in care and as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Texas drivers license
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in direct child care is preferred

POSITION: Houseparent In Training

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in direct child care preferred

PURPOSE: The individual or couple selected for this position will be trained and will be working in a cottage along with current houseparents. Most work will be done as weekend relief staff, with some weekday shifts. The goal of the position is to prepare the individual(s) for an easier transition into a cottage when a position is available.

RESPONSIBILITIES (this is a partial list of duties and should not be construed as complete):

  • Provide twenty-four (24) hour care and supervision of children.
  • Provide basic physical needs and emotional security for children in care.
  • Fully implement individualized service and/or treatment plan goals and objectives for children in care.
  • Observe and chart the children's behavior and progress of goals on a daily basis through well documented plus sheets, progress notes, and incident reports for timely submission to the case manager.
  • Assist children in learning basic skills of daily living such as meal preparation, clothing care, household responsibilities, etc.
  • Organize and supervise daily cottage activities.
  • Become knowledgeable of and committed to the implementation of licensing and level of care standards, as well as Children's Home policies.
  • Provide structure and implement age appropriate rules, privileges, and consequences on an individual basis for each child.
  • Provide or arrange transportation to and from various appointments for the children in care such as medical, dental, therapy, and family visits.
  • Prepare nutritional meals according to approved meal plans.
    Assess clothing and hygiene needs of children in care and work with the unit team (unit director and case manager) to meet these needs.
  • Work with the children's teachers in formulating ways to enhance their educational experiences and assist children in meeting academic goals and objectives.
  • Work with the treatment team to identify and secure services from other professionals as needed: (physicians, dentists, orthodontists, therapists, optometrists, CPS, JPD, etc.)
  • Ensure children receive all routine examinations and immunizations in accordance with licensing and level of care standards.
  • Retain and dispense medication according to physician's instructions for prescription medication and medication label for non-prescription medications and ensure appropriate documentation.
  • Model high personal and professional treatment standards by communicating openly with staff and exercising mature judgment.
  • Assist in training new and/or interviewing prospective child care workers.

Part-Time Positions:

    Therapeutic Care - We are currently seeking to fill part-time relief child care positions in our therapeutic cottages. Shifts include:
    • Weekend Relief House Parents - Friday at 2:00 p.m. until Sunday at 10:00 p.m.
    • Awake Nighttime Staff - 10:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m.
    • Awake Nighttime Staff, Assessment Center - 10:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m. (Friday and Saturday nights only)
  • Part-Time Relief Child Care Workers - Emergency Shelter and Assessment Center.
  • Part-Time Relief Child Care Workers -We also have openings in our basic care cottages. Shifts include:
    • Weekend Relief House Parents - Friday at 3:00 p.m. until Saturday at 10:00 p.m.
    • Weekend Relief House Parents - Friday at 3:00 p.m. until Sunday at 10:00 p.m.
    • May also include week-day shifts.
  • Part-time staff of the Education / Recreation Unit
    Provide supervision for children who attend activities at the Mabee Activity Center, the Boverie Pool, the Tatum Skill Center. They assist with the planning and implementation of educational and recreational activities that support the over-all program of care at the Children's Home of Lubbock.
  • Part-time Commissary Assistant
    • Schedule: Mostly morning shifts
    • Clothing Room: receive and log donations; sort, clean, repair and display clothing items; help cottage staff distribute clothing or household items to kids; keep record of dispensed items
    • Groceries: assist in purchase of food as assigned; assist in filling grocery and household item orders
    • Cleaning Duties: keep all floors (including cooler & freezer) swept and mopped; wax as needed; empty trash daily; clean restroom and kitchen; clean and stock shelves
  • Part-time Social Services Secretary
    • Ability to successfully use general office equipment and computer systems. Proficient in Microsoft Office
    • One to two years clerical experience or advanced training.
    • Meet the requirements of licensing standards in regards to a criminal background check.
    • Responsibilities (partial listing)
      • Answer multi-line phone system
      • Greet & direct visitors
      • Create and maintain client records
      • Desk register all referrals and send out Admissions packets
      • Track important due dates for clients and social services staff
      • General office duties (filing, typing/creating documents, etc.)
      • Keep reception and social service area tidy and apply office
        manner rules to children as they come into the office.
      • Maintain and distribute keys for vehicles and apartments as needed
  • Requirements for all positions:
    • Valid TX driver's license with good driving record
    • High School diploma (or equivalent)
    • Experience working with emotionally disturbed children
