Family Care
Program
The Family Care
Program began offering a helping hand to single mothers and their
children August 1, 2002. (Read a
Family Care Story)
The struggle
for survival can bring a tremendous burden to single mothers. Many
agonize over how they will meet even the most basic needs of their
families. For some, the struggle results in heartbreaking separation,
as they are forced to place their children in someone elseŐs care.
The Family Care
Program, a program which is unduplicated in the Lubbock area, provides
immediate relief for families in crisis. It helps them resolve their
individual problems while moving toward successful independent living.
It is not designed for families in a chronic state of unrest, but
rather for those who need temporary support while they locate the
resources they need to survive independently.
Single mothers
and their children are offered a place to live, life skill training,
and most important, therapy and spiritual guidance to help understand
what brought them to this point and how to achieve a successful
life for each member of the family.
The program
helps the family unit heal their wounds and acquire the skills they
need to face the future with confidence, while they are sheltered
in a safe environment that meets their physical, emotional and spiritual
needs.
The Family Care
Program of The ChildrenŐs Home of Lubbock offers:
- residential
care for single women and their children
- case work
services to assist in setting educational and career goals, individual
and family therapy goals, and goals to help the family achieve
economic self-sufficiency
- practical
assistance in the day-to-day achievement of stated goals
- assistance
in accessing community resources, on-site therapy and spiritual
guidance for women, their children, and the family unit
- accountability
skills, life skill training and parent education
- after-care
services through ongoing therapy and life skills training
The Family Care
Program will be housed in the Reagan Cottage on our campus. Thanks
to a generous grant from the M.S. Doss Foundation which was matched
with gifts from a number of our friends, the cottage will be renovated
to provide living space for four women and their children. Renovations
have already begun in anticipation of the August first opening date.
The Family Care
Program gives women and their children the opportunity to become
productive members of society, contributing to societyŐs solutions
rather than its problems. If you are interested in giving to the
Family Care Program, volunteering as a mentor to our clients, or
