Family Care
Story
JoAnn wasn't
married when her daughter Lauren was born. Though
that was a mistake, Lauren has been one of the best blessings that
she could ever have asked for, and JoAnn is committed to providing
a good life for her daughter.
Up until a few
months ago, she was succeeding. She had a good job and a nice apartment.
She paid her bills on time and enjoyed being a mother to Lauren.
But things can change on a dime. In the space of one month, JoAnn's
world crumbled.
She got sick,
so sick that she was in the hospital for two weeks. While she was
in the hospital, several things happened. Because she was absent
for two weeks, she was fired from her job. A "friend" went into
her apartment, vandalized it, and stole everything. Everything -
her checks, her credit cards, her furniture, her clothes - everything
was gone. And after the friend got through with the credit cards
and the checks, so was her good name and her home.
The car that
had provided JoAnn the means to get to work became her home. That's
when she and Lauren came to The Children's Home to the Family Care
Program. The Home provided shelter and a time of respite while helping
JoAnn figure out what to do.
JoAnn is a hard
worker and quick to learn. Given the opportunities that she had
in the Family Care cottage to save money, qualify for a good job,
and care for her daughter, she is on her feet once again, and extremely
grateful for everything that has been shared with her.
